when 140 characters is not enough

Time Warner Cable experienced another attack on our DNS servers last night, affecting Internet users in our Southern California and National Divisions.

Our National Division covers the following areas:

We are deploying more hardware and software, and wetware (human) resources to handle the increased load during attacks and mitigate their impact on our customers and continuing to work with law enforcement authorities as well.

Given the vague and inexact nature of the attacks, we can't issue a blanket refund -- credits will be issued on a case by case basis. We know that these attacks are disruptive, and we understand that you're frustrated.

We are e-mailing our customers affected by these attacks to let them know what's going on, and will continue to offer updates whenever we have new information. We're also fully aware of the inherent irony involved with communicating to our customers on Twitter during a large Internet outage. Many, many commenters have pointed this out. However, sending a paper letter that says "the internet's out" would be even more ridiculous.

We know that this is frustrating to you, and it's frustrating to us, too. We appreciate your patience as our Security and Abuse teams diligently work to identify the source(s). It's absolutely critical to us and our customers that these attacks not only be mitigated, but that the hackers are identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
